Independence from Party Control
Restoring Accountability in Washington
Most Texans don’t wake up thinking in red or blue. They think about their families, their work, and whether anyone in Washington actually understands their lives. Because of hyperpartisanship and the sense of entitlement to voters, Washington doesn’t have to work that way anymore.
It’s a closed system that is run by party leadership, enforced by insiders, and designed to protect power, not solve real problems. Lawmakers don’t vote their judgment anymore. They vote their instructions. This mentality is creeping into our homes, schools, and churches, and as a result people are starting to see through red and blue lenses only. That is dangerous for society.
Bills are written behind closed doors. Committee assignments are handed out as rewards for loyalty. Votes are cast to protect careers, preserve power, and not to deliver results. And too often, elected officials defend positions they privately admit don’t work… because the party demands it and even if their own constituents suffer in the compromise.
Voters feel trapped between two sides that care more about winning than governing and this campaign is built to break that system.
The Principle
Independence is not our label. Independence is our governing philosophy and, as your Senator, I will answer to voters instead of party leadership, political machines, and the donor class that funds them.
To do this we must restore independent judgment, real transparency, and a system where elected officials are accountable for what they do and not what color they represent.
What I Will Do
Break leadership control over committees
Committee assignments should not be tools of punishment or reward. I will push for reforms that reduce leadership control and return committees to their intended purpose: serious, independent lawmaking.
Ban coercive party mechanisms
No more backroom threats, forced votes, or “fall in line” politics. I will support rules that prohibit party leadership from coercing members through funding threats, assignments, or procedural retaliation.
Impose term limits on leadership roles
No one should hold concentrated power in Washington indefinitely. Leadership positions should rotate to bring fresh thinking and prevent entrenched control.
Open up the electoral system
I will support reforms like open primaries and ranked-choice voting so voters and not party gatekeepers decide who advances and who represents them.
Force transparency in lawmaking
If a bill can’t survive public scrutiny, it shouldn’t become law. I will push for open legislative processes and clear, public explanations for every vote I take.
How I Will Govern
I will not join a party caucus. I will not take corporate PAC money. Instead, I will build coalitions issue by issue, working with anyone from any party when it serves the people of Texas.
I will explain every vote, clearly and publicly because transparency is power and can go a long way in promoting peace in society. When you understand why decisions are made, you can hold your elected officials accountable which is what Washington has been trying to avoid.
The Bottom Line
Independence isn’t about being “in the middle”, it’s about being free to do what’s right.
Washington has enough hyperpartisan voices clamoring for status via sensationalism. Washington needs a reset, an independent who isn’t controlled by either side.
That’s how we break the system and give it back to the people.
